Sam and I have been traveling to Thailand for over a decade now! Our first trip in 2014 took us through Bangkok, Chiang Mai, and Koh Lanta, and since then, Thailand has become one of our favorite destinations. It feels like a second home with its vibrant culture, delicious food, and beautiful landscapes.
This year, we decided to visit a place that’s been on our radar but never on our itinerary: Koh Phangan (also spelled Ko Pha Ngan or Ko Phangan). This tropical paradise is located in the Gulf of Thailand, just north of the larger island of Koh Samui. Known for its stunning beaches, lush jungle interiors, and vibrant party scene—including the famous Full Moon Party—Koh Phangan also has a quieter, more soulful side with yoga retreats, wellness centers, and a very active AcroYoga community.
Packing our bags, we flew to Koh Samui and hopped on a ferry to Koh Phangan, excited to explore its unique charm, connect with the local acro community, and indulge in some epic kite surfing sessions.
Upon arrival, the Koh Phangan AcroYoga community welcomed us with open arms and playful spirits. It’s always a joy to meet like-minded people who share the love for movement, creativity, and collaboration. The warmth of this community has been the highlight of our visit so far.
However, nature had its own plans. With persistent rain, our visions of beach jams and kiteboarding have been put on pause. It’s a humbling reminder of an important lesson: make plans, but stay flexible. Sometimes, the best adventures come from embracing the unexpected.
Even with the rain, we’ve had incredible moments. Our workshop was full of energy, laughter, and connection. Here’s a glimpse of what we shared:
Flag
We began by reviewing the Five Foundations of Acrobatics (detailed further in our Slackline Yoga Student Manual), building up to the pose: Flag. This iconic pose served as a powerful expression of all Five Foundations working together in harmony.
Crisscross Crawl
Next, we dove into the AcroYoga Washing Machine: Criss-Cross Crawl—a dynamic flow created by YogaSlackers teacher Tom Widdison and AcroYoga teacher Chris Filkins from Los Angeles, CA. This playful sequence allowed us to deepen our understanding of the AcroYoga Foundations while exploring their application in a fun, engaging, and collaborative way.
An AcroYoga flow is a linear sequence of poses and transitions performed seamlessly from start to finish, often focusing on creativity and storytelling through movement. A washing machine, on the other hand, is a cyclical sequence of movements that loops repeatedly, allowing partners to refine transitions, build endurance, and develop trust. While flows emphasize variety and expression, washing machines focus on repetition and precision.
For those of you who missed this event—or are eager to keep progressing—remember that we host trainings, retreats, and workshops around the world to help you deepen your AcroYoga practice. Whether you’re looking to refine your foundations, learn new washing machines, or simply connect with a global community of movers, we’d love to see you at one of our future events.

Until next time, keep playing, keep connecting, and keep practicing. See you on the mat, the slackline or on the water—soon!
